When God has a mission, He sends a Messenger

When God has a mission, He always sends a messenger. This evening at Mission Springfield (a week of servant evangleism projects done by Springfield Baptist Church), I attended the clean up of a local elementary school. During the night my wife lointed out a group of people playing basketball. She said, “Hey Evans! You want to go share your faith? There is a group of people for you.”

I took off across the playground to get to the basketball court. As I got closer I realized that I was going to be the only one there of my ethnicity. I was then trying to figure out a way to communicate. All of a sudden I hear two guys behind me yell, “Hey wait up! You werent gonna invite us?” Behind me was Todd Ballard and Crockett “tha rocket” Parrish. When we all three got there, Todd went to work. He talked to the ladies the best he could and found out from them that their middle school son/nephew was bilingual. Todd connected instantly and began building a relationship in which to share the gospel. I was not there to speak, I was there to pray. I, former Director of Evangelism, had went there to share the gospel. When I had no words, he sent a messenger.

As Todd was talking to the young man, the people still were not paying any attention to us. We could not talk with them nor play basketball, but when God has a mission He sends a messenger. Enter Christina Lindahl. She and her husbad arrive and instantly starts speaking to everyone (in Spanish). She realizes they are from Guatemala so she uses that particular dialect. They all stafted looking at us then. All of a sudden their baskeball game ended and they started inviting us to play. Christina set it up (inevitably by making fun of us old Englsih spekaing guys). There it was. Two nationalities playing basketball, laughing, sweating and talking. Christina continued to share why we were helping at the school, told them about our church and the ELL that meets at our church and about Jesus. After the game, one of our folks had brought everyone water. When God uas a mission, He sends a messenger. I never shared the gospel. I was kind, played basketball (3 shots made), and joked. God had His messengers set up. My wife identified the opportunity, I was willing to go, Todd built the first relationship and Christina clearly articulated Jesus. If you are willing, then don’t worry about the words. When God has a mission, He will send the messenger. You go and be willingly faithful.
